by Louis Schoener on Long overdue review. I am definitely not mature enough to enjoy jazz/blues to their fullest, but that didn't stop me from having a good time at Yoshi's! A bunch of us went to watch Lee Ritenour and Friends. I just wanted to see what Yoshi's was about, since I had heard their sushi was amazing. The tables/seats are mighty close together. I guess there are two separate sections, one slightly elevated (aka balcony). Though I felt cramped, I was amongst buddies, so bumping elbows every now and then wasn't a problem. by Edmund Derenzo on When you first walk in, you're greeted with a beautiful lobby and old school classy decor. There's clearly a mermaid theme going on, which is pretty cool imo. The drinks are actually reasonably priced, but oddly enough you get a much better deal when you buy a beer (12 oz bottle) versus buying a soda (about an 8 oz cup filled with ice and some soda). We tried the fries there, which reminded me of frozen grocery store fries. No biggie though, as we were there for the music, not the fries. FWIW, the hamburgers smelled good but I can't vouch for the taste. If you want to sit and enjoy the show, I'd definitely recommend being there when the doors open. The tables quickly fill up - especially the ones with great views. I took the advice of a fellow rateclubser and avoided the tables closest to the stage. Great advice! Our view would have definitely been blocked had we gone for a close table. Definitely go for the tables in back or along the side. Overall, I love the ambiance of this place. It's nice and dark, but not overly so. It's classy, but far from stuffy. Nice and roomy, but still an intimate venue.
by esther k. on i've had some fun times here dancing, but all that leather on the walls and ceiling sometimes makes me feel like i'm in an insane asylum. my friends and i usually don't have problems getting in but after 12.30am, you better be prepared to buy bottles or know a promoter, especially on the weekends. maybe it was just because of fashion week, but the last time we tried to go here, the snarky drag queen at the door (who also looked like he was 45) was only letting people in if they'd buy 2 bottles, saying that they were "beyond capacity" and only had "one table left". right. he wouldn't let those guys in forever so i'm assuming that they were waiting for someone to leave so they'd actually have a table to sell. seriously, didn't anyone tell miss thang that the days of being exclusive at home are over? the last few times i went there, it was an interesting mix and it was so much fun seeing all the different people around just dancing and having a good time.
