by Sean G. on ESSR is a fun portal into a parallel universe created through the alchemy of uber hip, steam punk, and bohemian ideals. It's really fun, until you get the bill and realize there's a steep mark up on the novel "run down but not too run down" experience. The drinks are really good, though.
by Alicia K. on 15 people in our group +3 bottles +2 velvet ropes- yes, TWO ropes, even with a table we had to wait +$5 self parking right next door +10 bouncers protecting the fortress +4 drinks in my belly +0 people spilling drinks on me -------------------------------- Fun Saturday night! Minus one star for having to wait even with table reserved, and the table was elevated to the point where I called it the Treehouse... kinda cool, but scary if you're next to the edge with heels and short skirt.
by Arielle Bascas on You know a date is going to be long, when he asks you to meet him at Cafe Cocomo for a little dancing. First off, there are several pros to having a date here: a. Sneak peek at how well he moves to music. b. Sneak peek at how well he moves you. c. Sneak peek at how hard they are going to try to get you in bed that very night. So, despite the fact that he was really really cute and tall, he was not successful in getting me to stay later than the dancing required. Cafe Cocomo is a long standing establishment in San Francisco giving the Bay Area residents the opportunity to take part in the dance scene when Swing, Salsa, and other types of ballroom dancing hit the area. I was shooed into the salsa scene with the rest of my friends, and frequented this spot often. Despite the fact that I was still Salsa inefficient, I was lucky to be paired with experienced dancers who knew how to lead and lead very well. Most of my fun was learning how to move in response to their lead. Meringue is easier, mostly body contact and then most of the men would inevitably get hard-ons, but hey, I'm just dancing. Up the ante with several drinks, and the action on the floor gets livelier. There are decent booths to sit in around the dance floor when your toes get tired, but beware of the often rampant heels. A friend of mine was kicked in the shin by another girl accidentally during a spin, and it left a killer of a bruise. If you go before 8:00, they usually host a free dance lesson.....and have a coat-check. Great deal and great atmosphere with down-to-earth people.
