I'm still in a smiley food coma from dinner at Continental last night. I'd been there once before for brunch, which was very good. It's hard to make an egg-white omelet taste really good, but the spinach and greyuere cheese omelet i had was very flavorable, the home-fried potatoes were crisp and the side of fruit salad was overflowing with ripe, plentiful goodness! Still, nothing could have prepared me for the food heaven I would enter for dinner!! I started off with a watermelon mojito martini that was fruity and delicious. Their drink list, like everything else, is extensive and creative. My friend and I decided to split a few "small plates." Had we known how generous the portions were we probably would have gotten fewer, but the options all looked so delicious we decided on four -- the hummus with pita, the vegetable empanada with roasted corn dressing, the mushroom flatbread and the french onion soup dumplings. They were ALL delicious, particularly the unbelievable french onion dumplings, which were so creatively served. They were melt in your mouth wonderful and if you order anything off the small plates, order that. For dessert, I had salted caramel ice cream which was decadent and delicious. My friend had the chocolate sorbet, which she said was "beyond any boring sorbet" she had had before. They had lots of interesting "small desserts," such as PB&J and even cotton candy! Prices were reasonable, but everything can add up after a while. The decor of Continental is gorgeous and dark and very comforting. I relax instantly there. There was no wait to sit on a busy Wednesday night. Sitting on the second-floor "swings" just forces you to relax. My waiter was knowledgable and enthusiastic. I did hear him giving the same spiel to all the tables as he gave to us, but that's ok. This is a must-go place -- my new favorite!! I will be back for my birthday next month.

If I could, I might dock a quarter to a half star on two issues: - Our server is still learning (I know, I've made some of the same subtle mistakes he did.) - The GM didn't inform us the wine he picked out cost more than the price I OKed. (It wasn't much more, but in my opinion, the wine server should ALWAYS tell you before uncorking the bottle. On the plus side, though, it was a really good match based on what we requested.) Noteworthy details: The GM is relatively new to the restaurant, as is the chef. Apparently, Ibiza got a bit away from its origins in its first year. The new chef is there, in part, to return "Spanish-inspired" to the menu. My hubby told me the Negroni he ordered was one of the best he's had outside of our home. That's fairly high praise for the bar. Yes, it is indeed quiet on a Thursday night.....that is, unless there is a private party upstairs with a PA system for door prizes.
