by Jennifer P. on I found myself here on Tuesday before my shift at work, hungry and curious. I heard they had a quaint little market in the basement of this place with nice sundry goods to browse so I went in. I had trouble deciding between a red curry egg salad and a brie grilled cheese sandwich, which seemed to be the only vegetarian sandwich options on their menu. I love eggs. I love curry. But I also love me some brie, and brie grilled cheese just sounded heavenly. I have a thing for melting and toasting brie on crusty breads, and even on English muffins. so I went with the brie grilled cheese. I was all excited but when I tried it I didn't think it was fantastic or anything. It came with some kind of wilted greens, I think spinach and had some kind of sweet-tasting condiment on it but I couldn't figure out what it was. I think it was left on the panini grill too long because the cheese had assumed an almost plastic state and became part of the bread (don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about), which would be a good thing if this were tantric sex but this is food that I'm talking about here. The cheese was still somewhat gooey and melty but it's lack of presence made it hard to tell that I was eating brie. The only texture I got was from the ciabatta bread, which was toasted nicely but they need to clean their panini grill or something because I had pieces of carcinogenous charred bread stuck to the bottom of my sandwich. I love chargrilled foods, but I don't like other people's chargrilled food remnants stuck on my sandwich. The nice thing about this place is that their goods are fun to look at. They have nice French-milled soaps and all that jazz. Also, there's a nice little patio area outside where you can sit and enjoy your food. I will have to give this place another try so I can give it a fair asessment. Perhaps i went on a bad day. I'll go back for brunch or something.
by Kirk Murawski on SAVING GRACE OF THIS ESTABLISHMENT: HAPPY HOUR Would never ever EVER go on a Friday or Saturday night.. but on Thursdays and Fridays from 5-9 their happy hour is my stomping ground. 2 DOLLAR wells. And let us not forget the adjacent tacos.
