Being single is great, but when one is at a place like Sambuca Jazz Cafe - it's great only if I'm the type to go home w/ someone without asking their name, or caring. Otherwise, it becomes pretty irrelevant. So my girlfriend and I had a bottle of wine here, enjoyed some tunes and moved on. Meat market. Men out to meet women - and most women willing, it seemed. One upside is that people WILL tell you what they think of you, no holds barred.... even if they came with someone! I appreciate honesty, always - - but this was a bit much. Walking to the ladies' room is not really an invite for you to tell me what you think of me. Live music was really good, but it ended at about midnight, and then it was recorded music. Wait - let me make it clear, it was recorded music but not even jazz... I mean, they played Akon! From a Jazz Cafe, I expect live music until closing, intermittently, anyhow. It was very crowded on a Friday night -- but did clear out significantly by 1 AM, about an hour after the band faded out. For a variety of reasons, I'd take off a star from Sambuca. But for the waiter who attempted to pour a full bottle of wine into two wine glasses - - boo hoo. WTF? Another star off, at least! And for the guy who sent over the bottle of wine - - such a sweet gesture, but honey - - we were toasted off of one bottle at Fogo across the street and near obliterated from the second bottle at Sambuca. It wouldn't sit well with me to have taken that when we wouldn't have even touched it. But if I could go back tonight - - I'd tell you to bring it on, :-) (joking)
