This boat bar felt so utterly...New England to me. Being a California transplant, I had never seen so many frat boys in plaid shorts and penny loafers all in one place before. I felt like I was at the zoo, observing the frat boys in their element. I arrived here after having had a few too many sangrias from my brunch at Calle Ocho - NOT a good idea. I had been horribly hung over the day before, and for some reason the sangria brought it all back. The rocking of the boat made me sick, as did my disgust at having to pay $7 for one stinkin' Corona. I need to come back here when I'm in a better mood, because the place DOES have its charm.

I can only judge King King for it's Saturday nights, when the club hosts various house music DJ's. Fellow rateclubser Ewa M. swears by this place (and for good reason, because she's an awesome dancer) - it's for people serious about their house music and serious about dancing. It's a cool warehouse space with one long bar at the back, and offers drinks below the average Hollywood extortion prices, which is a huge bonus. This is not really a pickup place - honestly, from the few times I've been on Saturday nights, this is where people come to DANCE. King King is open until 4 AM (though last call is still at 2 AM - they will make you throw away your drinks) - and is definitely a fun time. While I like the fact that it's not one of those crazy clubs with all the really intense lights, I do think King King could add a BIT more ambience than the disco ball.
