Mayes plays good dancing music (top 40s, hip hop, old school, 80s) but does not have enough room to dance. It usually turns into a sauna at about midnight. It gets too packed (mostly with dudes), which is good if you're a girl, because you'll probably get free drinks. Even then, the bartenders are great and can whip you up a drink in a matter of seconds (and sometimes throw in some extra ones for free). I think they started charging a $5 cover not too long ago if you come after 11pm....go somewhere else if it's after 11pm...lol. There are more free bars on polk street that you can stumble in to.

Ok.. so I will give this place 3 stars... It should be 2.5... Positives: PBR for 2 bucks.... Dance area....Bartenders are nice... Bouncer was nice.. Negatives: Filthy neighborhood... Bathrooms need to be cleaned... Fight on the dance floor. We most likely won't be going back...
