by Mac Varon on Very trendy cafe with internet access! I came here for brunch around 11:30am. I ordered the stuffed french toast and iced coffee. Stuffed french toast (~7) - French toast stuffed with cream cheese and blueberries with strawberries on the side. They definitely did not skimp on the blueberries. I highly recommend this if you're not too concerned about your waistline. I probably shouldn't have ordered it, but what's done is done. Iced coffee (1.75) - If you ask for it sweetened, they add some sort of syrup (possibly just simple) that makes this coffee so delicious. Considering how I had basically no energy this morning, this coffee definitely woke me up. They also offer a variety of pastries here. You can sit on the couches, at the small tables, or at the bar.
by Kimberly C. on I had dined at silk city after the new owners shifted and my friend got the fish tacos. This was about a year and a half ago but I had been waiting to get them since then and this was my opportunity. YUCK! They were weird and definatly not the same as my friends. It came with four large chunks of fish three pieces of plaintain and about a teaspoon of a mango salsa that had no real taste to it. And the kicker was that the gaucamole was weird green color and did not even look like Gaucamole. I did try because I love Gauc but it was too weird and I could not get past the strange color like it was sitting out for too long. Luckily I was in good company so my time was not ruined but I will not be dining there again. there are too many options in NOrthern Liberties that I can travel a couple more blocks to eat some really good food. One positive a great outdoor space that is really relaxed however the service is a little slow.
by Hershel Katzmann on I went for my friend and coworker's birthday. We chose Zahav because we heard the buzz, it was across from the hotel (Sheraton Society Hill), and they have a happy hour. We stayed for dinner because it smelled and looked so good. We started with the baked hummus, which I will wholeheartedly recommend, because it was baked with garlic and olive oil, which really just made a good thing better. It was hummus, but with the consistency and temperature sensation of spinach artichoke dip. And the drinks were fantastic. The Saz-Arak is Canadian whiskey with Arak (an anise flavored liqueur), lemon, and flamed orange peel. Although it's chilled, it isn't served with ice. It started bitter and ended tart. (Not unlike a Campari with grapefruit).
