I remember this place when it was Vue.  The space isn't utilized as well as it once was, no longer taking as much advantage to it's 360 degree shaped dome ceiling, but the place has it's own new appeal.  The upstairs private cabanas are very cute, and the set up down stairs, with the circular seating area opposite the bar is a nice addition. The inner igloo (or at least it was once an igloo) does offer a a great white sandy beach-like feel. The drinks?  Unless it's open bar, expect to pay the high price. Otherwise, it does have it's own charm, and if you're looking to dance here like you once did, I'd suggest going elsewhere.

So the East Side Showroom has hit home with me pretty hard, because it's what I've been looking for for quite a while. Old School, thank you very much. The building is old and worn in all the right places, with appropriate rough edges and polished accents. The projection screen plays silent films. The floors are rough wood. The furnishings are mismatched but tasteful, as is popular in Austin these days. But what sold me was the bar itself. When you look at the back, most of you won't recognize a thing. Certainly they have Gin, Vodka, Bourbon and Rum, but these are left of center brands, classic flavors and funky takes on the traditional, and that is deeply ingrained in the menu, it seems. The cocktail menu has gourmet cocktails and old school classics, and there is nothing there that you'll find anywhere else. Their beer and wine list is unique and excellent. The service did taste a bit of that east side Austin attitude, I'll get there when I get there, but its to be expected a bit in a place that takes cocktails as seriously as they seem to. Since I also take classic cocktails seriously, and understand that a fifth of preparation is worth a gallon of cure, I took it in stride. All in all, originality is in high regard here, and I will certainly be back

if you wannna be close to 200 sweating drugged up losers (who cant dance to save their own lives), cielo is the place for you.... reluctantly went back with my girlfriends, already expecting the crap (but internally hoping for maybe something different, cute guy to look at?), and not only was I sadly let down, the sound system must have been busted cuz the speakers were so statik-y.... ugh. seriously never going back.
