I was pretty excited to go to Dallas. One, I am new to Austin and two; we don't have very many country bars where I'm from. First impression when I walked in was the staff was super friendly and the drink prices where damn cheap. There is a huge sprawling dance floor with folks doing the Texas Two Step and lots and lots of cowboy hats, wrangler jeans and big belt buckles. I found sort of this charm/cheese factor going on. The older men (and I do mean older) were very "southern Gentlemen" and the women looked a little like Tammy Wynette. I actually liked this, made me feel like I stepped back into some late 70's movie. There is a younger crowd that goes there as well, I think that's where the cheese factor came in for me. After a few hours I was over it and ready to go. I will say I don't know how to Texas Two Step and we went on a Wed night, so maybe the weekend would have been a little more happening. I would possibly go back with a big group of people, and I hear they have salsa night on Thursday which is supposed to be pretty rockin. One last thing, they do have dance lessons on certain nights for Salsa and The Texas two Step.

what a cool spot, i had an out of town guest and we wanted to see some live music. drove around the block and through the 'murder kroeger' parking lot like 3 times looking for 'the drunken unicorn' to catch live music. while we were trying to find it, the pizza shop in this same building told us about mjq, and that it was THE spot. after getting quickly bored in the much smaller drunken unicorn (will review next), we spent the $5 cover to get into mjq (how cheap!) $2 pbrs and the dj was pretty great (pic posted). this is a late night space, i don't even think they open until midnight. good vibe, great time.
