by Loren Schemm on Stumbled upon this place purely by accident whilst in the neighborhood. Though not terribly fond of Mexican cuisine, I thought the food--particularly, the pescado tacos & chips/salsa--was fantastic. Best tacos I've ever had? I'd certainly say this place is in the running. Reasonably priced & especially filling--the boyfriend & I ordered two tacos each, totaling ~$20, and were more than satisfied with the meal. The atmosphere resembles, as others have pointed out, what one might expect from a scene dedicated to delivering lively nightlife. Appearing to be a small joint from the outside, the interior is actually quite spacious, with brilliant red walls and dangling chandeliers. Apple red booths surround the outskirts of the place, with movable tables and chairs everywhere else. During our visit (a Saturday night), the place was bustling with a line nearly out the door. The restaurant blasted loud dance music, and restaurant-goers were, sometimes drunkenly, swaying their hips to the music as they made their way across the room to their tables. Though hardly conducive for a nice conversation, the atmosphere was fun and, needless to say, social. The cashiers and servers were friendly and efficient, taking orders for drinks as we stood in line waiting to order and pay for food at the bar (orders are only taken at the bar; utensils, water, etc. is self-serve, though they bring you the food via an assigned number). I'd visit this joint again just for their pescado tacos. I didn't try "Nick's Way" and opted for the default soft shell--but that seemed to be fine enough for me.
by Joshua J. on You'll definitely have a great time, or blackout trying. One thing is guaranteed...there is plenty of time for drinking during the 5hours you're waiting for the "show" you think you'll see. So why 3 stars? - The Show: a drag queen throwing tequila is entertaining but not $150/person entertaining. I can get that in the Tenderloin for $35 (perhaps Free if i let them keep the bottle of tequila) - The Food: It's delicious but when you spread it out over 4+ hours you need more of it. The DJ was great and the staff really is great but be warned, you'll spend a small fortune for mediocre food and entertainment but after all of the booze and the possible pillow fights and then dancing you'll leave with good memories.
by Stephaine Shettsline on Apparently a lot of my friends like bowling, and I will have to agree that it makes for a pretty entertaining social event. Bowlmor Lanes gets a 5 from me because of the experience I had on the Wednesday night I went. Firstly, if you decide you should go out and do something on a Wednesday, definitely consider Bowlmor because of their 'Formerly Employed Wednesdays!' promotion. $4 drafts couples with $4 games of bowling make for a relatively inexpensive night while partaking in a not-to-exerting sport that still allows you to be competitive with your friends. The staff here was pretty good, we received our orders rapidly and the person managing the shoe rental area was actually helpful in getting you the right size rather than having you try an figure it out yourself. Make sure you're legal or have an ID (though I'm not promoting any tomfoolery) because you need to be 18 to get in Sun-Thur and over 21 Fri-Sat. I'd like to go back on a Monday for their $24 unlimited bowling from 9PM to 1AM promotion, so hopefully I can get my friends convinced to make a return trip.
