the frying pan is all about location, being able to drink outside along the river, and hang out with your friends. they key to not being burned by the frying pan is going to it with friends you like hanging out with...this is not a pick-up joint or meat market...though the post-college frat-sters seem to think so as they get shot down left and right, and go home with giant grenades that they pick up at the pier. the point is the frying pan is about being outside in good weather, boozing with friends at a cool spot, and enjoying the view. can't speak to the burgers and fries--but it sure smelled good. you can order beer by the pitcher which is a plus! the staff seems cool, given that they have to deal with doofuses, fratsters, drunk grenades, and bridge & tunnel freaks all night long. i am docking two star because the bathrooms at the Frying Pan are straight out of Hostel. for real-sies. you could be killed in one of those bathrooms or getting to it...the conditions are very much see it for yourself. now i am speaking from using the bathroom that's on the other ship next to the frying pan barge which is one of the bathrooms...there another set at the front of the frying pan barge as well.. didn't use those. the bathroom on the other ship are out of a horror film. i will say one thing metal everywhere, drunk people, lots of stairs to fall down, one wrong turn and you fall off the barge, etc. it's a lawyer's goldmine or paradise. nonetheless it's a solid drinking spot for friends. it does get crowded. so scope out tables on the earlier side of the night. you were warned.

Super cool and really really great food. Great evening hang out, either for dinner or food.

It's all you can eat ethiopian food with a full bar!! Ok, the food isn't the best ethiopian food you will get in the Bay Area. But, it's ALL YOU CAN EAT!! How many places do you go where when you finish they ask you if you want more? C'mon now people ... stop complaining!! I think the fact that there are so many good restaurants in SF that when people go to a place that is less than THEIR standard, they get annoyed. Food snobs are the worst. I can imagine if you pay a lot of money ... but, this is ALL YOU CAN EAT!! How many gourmet all you can eat restaurants have you been to? Anyway, the food is decent, good selection of beers on tap and in the bottle, decent whiskey, crappy jukebox, pool table, lots of seating ... nothing much to complain about. Word.
