Last night as I was ordering a drink, I realized I was standing next to Ryan Howard. Cool. Things to be aware of: Cover can be up to $20, depending on the night. There is a dress code, so no sneakers, baseball caps, etc.
by Darius Goettel on I went to Rockit on Friday night and all I got was a bruised eye after my friend elbowed me while dancing. In the coat check line. That's right. Not even on the dance floor. Elbow to the eye in the coat check line. Oh, let's be fair now. I got some other things, too: -- A $3 coat check. Slow coat check at that. -- A $10 vodka tonic. Woof. -- Some bad attitude from the people who manage the doors/ropes. Ugh, ropes. Give me a break. -- No room to dance because it was so crowded, which is probably why we had to dance in the coat check line, and probably why I got elbowed in the eye.* Call me a Negative Nancy, fine, but I don't understand the appeal. Maybe it's because I'm not a "hot guy"** or maybe it's because a dive bar is more my scene, but this was TMTH. I definitely experienced the New York scene that some people may deem glamorous, but I'm not the clientele for which Rockit is designed. Give me Erotic Photo Hunt, cheap drinks, dark bars, no fuss, and self esteem any day of the week. __________ * This is my second injury due to dancing, by the way. The first being a dislocated knee, which was much more involved. What can I say? I dance too hard. ** One of the guys I was with just kept saying, "There are so many hot guys! You'll love it." As if "hot guys" are the holy grail and that you will INSTANTLY HAVE FUN if you're surrounded by eye candy. To which I say: Nay. Maybe if someone had touched MY butt, I'd be singing a different tune but . . . the world may never know.
