by Monroe Gardley on This is definitely more of an industrial/goth type of club. Came here for a MEAT event. On the extreme plus side, there was free BBQ meat. No joke! :D
by Hugh Isabel on Ah Hiro, my most often-attended club ever. For the amount of time I go here, you'd think I'd give it more than 3 stars. First off, Friday is Korean night so if you're looking for variety, avoid it that night. Saturday is mixed. Guestlists: Friday - Gotta email Base/Swerve to be on the list, saves you a WHOPPING $5. You still have to pay $15, do the math if you're not on the list.........$20 you idiots. Saturday - Use GBH guestlist before 12 to get in for $10, otherwise Velvet List after to get in for $15. Its $20 regular cover. Hiro is layed out like the final scene of Kill Bill in that big bar. Huge space, altho too much is taken up by seats. The dance floor is still a good amount of space. They have acrobatic girls swinging back and forth from the ceiling. There are two floors with 2 bars in the bottom and 1 on the top. Music is a mix of hip hop and regular pop dance music with a few oldies mixed in. Not much reggae or house. From my experiences, Friday, even though its more of an exclusive Korean party, has better music. Base's DJ is pretty good. If Korean girls are your thing, this is the place to go. Saturday has so much promise. The problem is, the resident DJ isn't very good. He has some weird mixes for some simple club bangers, which ruins it. And he does it constantly, I find it hard to get into it at times and end up standing there complaining to my friends how bad he is. Then at 1AM, they change DJ, which differs from week to week. So its hit or miss with them. ALWAYS a miss with the resident DJ. Good mix of girls, although even on Saturdays, Korean girls flock here. The dress code is actually pretty relaxed recently. I seen people come in with shirts and hats. So Hiro, good promise, bad DJ.
by Jessa L. on when i go to a lot of places in sf, i can't help but think that the proprietors were drooling about putting together a pretty restaurant. don't get me wrong, i'm a sucker for a well thought-out interior, and would not want to pay the price i do for food if the atmosphere wasn't interesting...but.... the rite spot was a welcome change to the normal dive bar scene, and felt a little like emmy's spaghetti shack in its candle-lit, yet rough around the edges design. add cheap food and great music and i'm transported to my old stomping ground in a smaller, less cosmopolitan city that has my heart. ah, nostalgia.
